It was Chennai’s day today and it seemed as if it was scripted by a CSK fan. From the beginning of the match it seemed that Chennai were on a mission even luck was working in their favor. Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat straight away which meant Chennai was assured a win psychologically.
Chennai came out to bat and seemed to be on a mission. They started hitting the ball like they were seeing it as a football.
Michael Hussey was the first to take on the bowling and Murali Vijay soon followed him. They started hitting some magnificent sixes which were absolute cricketing shots. But along with the big shots both batsmen were very good in taking quick singles and turning the one into twos.
From the beginning of the innings they never lost the momentum. By scoring at above 10 an over from the very start it was curtains for Bangalore till the 14th over as both the opening batsmen were playing and the score was above 150. Chennai was running away with the match and no trick was working for Bangalore. Finally a wicket fell as Hussey tried to hit one out of the park and ended up giving a straight forward catch. But by that time the match was almost over. Out came Dhoni and started hitting the ball into the crowd. By that time Vijay was exhausted in the hot and humid weather of Chennai. Vijay got out at 95 as he seemed quite exerted.
Chennai carried on the good work and even after losing some quick wickets in the end they scored 205 runs in their quota of 20 overs. When Bangalore came out to bat all hopes were rested on Chris Gayle. The man who has single handedly won matches for Bangalore.
But today was just not his day as he got out on a duck. When Gayle got out CSK knew that half the battle was won. It just didn’t seem Bangalore’s day as they kept losing wickets. Chennai bowlers were strangling them as they were not allowing them to score quickly. Wicket after wicket ensured that Bangalore was going down without a fight. It was certainly a pity to see them falter as they did because a lot was expected out of them.
Finally Chennai won the match with quite a huge margin and it was the Ice Man again (MS Dhoni) who led them to another IPL win. Chennai seem to be an unbeatable side in the 20 overs format and it will be interesting to see in the Champions League as to what all teams manage to topple them.
