Royal Challengers Bangalore Vs Chennai Super Kings Preview
These are the two teams which are sitting pretty at the top of the table. Both of them have secured a spot in the play-offs and are amongst the favorite teams to lift this year’s trophy.
The last time both these teams met it was Chennai which walloped Bangalore. But at that time Bangalore did not have their opener Chris Gayle who has changed their fortune single handedly. Today’s match will be quite interesting as both teams look strong. Let’s have a look at both the teams and how they fair against each other.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Bangalore as we all know has become the strongest team in the competition after the arrival of Chris Gayle. They won 7 matches on the trot before losing to Punjab. Punjab certainly brought an end to the dream run of Bangalore as Adam Gilchrist exposed their rather inexperienced bowling attack. It is a fact that both Zaheer Khan and Daniel Vettori were not playing that match but there are no excuses for the sides who want to win big competitions.
In the batting order Bangalore will again be looking at Chris Gayle for providing resistance upfront. Virat Kohli is another batsman who will be under the pump of performing. The middle order seems fragile but if players like AB de Villiers get going then the side is capable of chasing any score. On the bowling front once again the absence of Daniel Vettori will affect the team. Zaheer Khan will shoulder the responsibility of taking early wickets.
Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings has once again come good when it mattered. Dhoni’s men in yellow have played some of the best cricket in the past few matches. They are certainly looking good for yet another IPL win. If they manage to win this game then they will top the points table which almost seals them a spot in the finals.
Like the previous matches their strength lies in the all round performance of players like Albie Morkel and Suresh Raina. Dwayne Bravo is another player who will be looked upon to make an impact on this game. They bat deep and most of their batsmen as power hitters and this is what makes Chennai such a lethal side. On the bowling front it is Doug Bollinger who is amongst the most economical bowlers in the tournament.
It will be a competitive match as the top spot is on stake. Tune into the match to enjoy some power hitting.
Royal Challengers Bangalore Vs Chennai Super Kings Highlights
It was the battle of two teams on the top of the table and would have decided the one who will top the points tally. Chris Gayle was on fire once again as Bangalore won the match with 2 overs to spare. Dhoni will certainly be disappointed from their performance as they had a great opportunity to seal the top spot in this edition of IPL.
Chennai batted first and a lot was expected from their batsmen. But they failed to perform, from Michael Hussey, Murali Vijay to Suresh Raina nobody even reached a two figure score. Even Badrinath was out for a duck. After quick wicket upfront Chennai was tottering at 22 for 4 in the 6th over. It was Zaheer Khan who did the damage along with Aravind and Vettori. The Bangalore bowlers were bowling a tight line which didn’t allow Chennai batsmen to free their arms.
At 22 for 4 Dhoni came out to bat and started rebuilding the innings slowly. Saha played sensibly before losing his wicket for 22 runs of 30 deliveries. At the score of 64 Dwayne Bravo came out to bat and it seemed that he just might be the right man to support Dhoni. But he fell after scoring a single boundary and after that Dhoni realized that he will have to score some quick runs before he runs out of partners.
Dhoni played beautifully and scored a blistering 70 of just 40 deliveries. He hit six sixes and Bangalore had no answer to his power hitting. But in the dearth of batting partners Chennai only managed to score 128 runs which were never going to be enough for Bangalore.
When Bangalore came out to bat it was Chris Gayle along with De Villiers who opened the batting. The pitch was on the slower side and that is why Chennai gave the first over to Ashwin. The trick worked as well as they got Ab de Villiers in the first over and that too for a duck. The dismissal might have sent jitters down the batting line up. Kohli was the next man in and he and Gayle tried to build a partnership and they were successful in doing it.
Both of them took Bangalore out of trouble but Kohli got out after scoring a 31 runs off 29 balls. But till that time the game was in their bag as the total was 80 runs and only 10 overs were bowled. Once Kohli got out Gayle seemed to be in a hurry of finishing the match. He hit some big sixes and brought up yet another half century. He smashed all bowlers that he faced and took his team to victory in the 18th over
itself.
