All Indian Cricket fans and BCCI selectors look on young guy Virat Kohli wear’s a leader of the Indian team is very soon these coming days.
Fans were recapped of Sachin Tendulkar's 'Desert Storm' blitz when Virat Kohli shattered Lasith Malinga all over the park on way to a striking unbeaten 133 in Hobart on Tuesday. Tendulkar had meted out related treatment to Australia's Michael Kasprowicz in Sharjah 14 years ago.
More than 24 hours later, honors haven't stopped coming in. The most important one came on Wednesday afternoon when the national selectors picked Kohli as the future leader of the Men in Blue by hiring him the vice-captain of the India team for the coming Asia Cup.
"The selection committee and board feel that Virat Kohli could be good future captaincy material," said Srikkanth on Wednesday. "It was a stunning victory and what a knock by Kohli!" the chief selector exclaimed.
The selectors have selected Kohli and put him on a futuristic highway. If he drives well, he could well lead the Indian team someday. His hit has pulled the team out of despair, given skipper MS Dhoni and rest of the senior players the much needed respite and diverted everyone's attention from the debated spat between Dhoni and Sehwag that had taken centrestage.
The vice-captain's role is a worthy reward, considering that seniors like Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina, who have led the ODI India team in the earlier, are part of the Indian team.
Dhoni will visit for a while and Sehwag, if not for the brief deficiency, will tower at the top of the table for some time.
However, considering that the BCCI is observing to invest in younger men for the future, there's a lot for Kohli to look onward to.
In Dhaka, if Dhoni once again drops short on overrate or some unfortunate injury happens to him, the 23-year old Kohli could see himself wearing the captain's armband very soon. With nine centuries and 20 fifties in ODIs carrier, the young man has been striking well indeed.
